The medieval town of San Casciano dei Bagni in the Val di Chiana stands in picturesque natural surroundings on the slopes of Mount Cetona. This little place in the south of the Province of Siena has been known since time immemorial for its excellent spa waters and is a popular destination for tourists who enjoy scenery and like to take care of their physical and mental wellbeing. The hot water bubbles to the surface from 42 mountain springs. It contains fluoride salts of sulphur, calcium and magnesium, and flows into the little spa station on the outskirts of the town. The curative properties of mud baths, inhalations and immersion are particularly recommended for rheumatic and digestive conditions, liver and biliary disorders and problems in the respiratory and gynaecological systems. There are numerous interesting places to visit
